Ross D. Secler focuses his practice representing municipalities, school districts, and townships in addition to his wide array of experience in election and political law, counseling clients through the strategic, legal, and regulatory frameworks governing political campaigns, organizations, and candidates, which includes litigation before the Circuit, Appellate, and Supreme Courts. Ross’s practice also includes serving as prosecutor or hearing officer for traffic and local ordinance violations. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
Ross grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago where he attended Adlai E. Stevenson High School. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Colgate University, he earned his Juris Doctor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Before joining Odelson & Sterk, Ross was the founding partner of an election law firm in Chicago where Ross represented municipal, statewide, judicial, county-wide, Congressional, US Senate, and US Presidential candidates. Ross has also served as a member of the Standing Rules Committee for a National Nominating Convention.
Prior to practicing law, Ross worked with a non-profit advocacy group in Washington D.C. Ross has also worked directly on a number of political campaigns for candidates running for Congress, the Illinois General Assembly, and the City of Chicago.
Ross is the current Chairman of the Election Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association and is also a member of the Association’s Legislative Committee. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Decalogue of Society of Lawyers. In 2018, Ross was named as one of the 2018 Rising Stars of Illinois by Super Lawyers.
Aside from practicing law, Ross enjoys golfing and lives in Chicago with his wife, Suzanne, and their dogs, Hamilton and Sadie.
